Ansonsten:

About the Upcycling Android Workshops

This page is dedicated to the Upcycling Android Workshops that take place as part of the Upcycling Android Campaign.

What is an Upcycling Android Workshop?

Do you know the problem that your phone still works great but you don't get updates anymore? Do you feel insecure because your last security update was several months ago? Or maybe you are missing an update of your operating system to install certain apps? The good news is: You can often fix the problem by installing an alternative operating system, a so-called "Custom ROM". The second good news is: We organize workshops where other people help you to install such an alternative operating system.

Who can participate in such an Upcycling Android workshop?

In principle, there are no restrictions in the sense that you need to bring any prior knowledge. However, there are natural participation limits, because for example each workshop helper can only help a certain number of participants, as well as physical limitations which are given by the local venues. This applies to the number of people who can be in the given space as well as to certain access restrictions, for example for wheelchair users. You can find all this information in the detailed descriptions on the Workshop pages

When and where do such workshops take place?

We organize the workshops in collaboration with local partners, often hackerspaces, repair cafes, Linux user groups and other sustainability groups. You can find a list of past and future workshops on this wiki on the workshop pages. All of these workshops are individual and offer different participation options as well as solutions. In particular, many workshops provide help for specific phones and/or support for specific operating systems. Therefore, please read the description carefully beforehand.

Participate in an Upcycling Android Workshop

How does an Upcycling Android workshop work?

First of all, it is important for us to pick up all participants and create a common understanding. Therefore, there are usually short introductions to the world of Android, about Digital Sustainability and Free Software. After that we get down to work: Now it's time to take phones in hand and together and with the help of the organizers

How should I prepare myself?

Within the Android world, there is an unmanageable number of cell phones and now also of alternative operating systems. Some configurations prove more difficult than others. In the workshops often only certain solutions can be offered, so it is most important that you first make sure that your phone and your desired custom ROM is also offered in the workshop in which you want to participate. If in doubt, it is best to ask the organizers directly. Otherwise:
