Here is a list of web sites where free software makes sense.

I have sorted them in serveral categories. At this point, it'd be good to know if these categories make sense and if their members are at the right place. Linux Users Groups could be listed too.

If you're not from Belgium, keep in mind that Belgium is a very complicated country from the politics point of view. You'll find some information on Wikipedia (a pointer to a dutch version would be nice).

Right now this page is somewhat biased to french-speaking organisations, this should be improved in the future

State dependent

Here are a few organisations that are either directly under control of the state or very close to be so.

  • Fedict at federal level

  • Belgium Interoperability Framework at federal level

  • Smals' open source inventory As far as Smals is concerned, one has to realize that it's very close to another extremely important organism : Kruispuntbank Social Zekerheid (KSZ)/Banque Carrefour de la Sécurité Sociale. Smals is close to BCSS in the sense that several people in its topmost management are also in the topmost management of BCSS (a simple look here and here will show that).

  • Kruispuntbank Social Zekerheid (KSZ)/Banque Carrefour de la Sécurité Sociale His goal is to link many entities together and make sure the data flow between them correctly, that is one only gets what he's entitled to - a good thing). However, doing so implies that the BCSS/KSZ tracks many data that flows between entities thus you can be sure that a lot of information about you might be kept temporarily here and there. For example, if you consult the "rijksregister/registre national" to know a bit of the information the state holds about you, this will be tracked.

  • etnic IT support for communauté française de Belgique; seems very tied to schools and education.

  • EASI-WAL Commissariat de la région wallonne pour l'E-Administration et la SImplification administrative
