Description
A meeting to plan and coordinate events which the FSFE and its Fellows participate in

Background

The FSFE and its Fellows participate in a number of events throughout the year, everything from FOSDEM to Veganmania. While each event is planned separately, there are a number of things in common: they often depend on volunteer contributions, resources from our office (flyers, sometimes merchandise), and there's sometimes a specific budget for reimbursing costs for participating. But most importantly: we all try to make each event as useful for the FSFE as possible.

The Event Coordination Meeting (which clashes horrible in its acronym with the European Coordinators Meeting, so alternatives welcome) is intended to be the forum where we can discuss upcoming events and make plans for them. The group of event coordinators will have some responsibility for jointly deciding on the events where the FSFE participate, the format of our participation, and the resources we allocate to each event. The specifics of how we work with this will be determined over time, and any procedural proposals are most welcome.

If you're interested in participating, please sign your name below!

Agenda

  1. Introduction to the meeting [by jonas, informational]
  2. Review of https://wiki.fsfe.org/Events and https://fsfe.org/events/ regarding upcoming events

  3. Suggestions for events the FSFE should participate in in the next 12 months (see http://foss.events/events/ and http://lwn.net/Calendar/ and others for inspiration)

Description

    FSFE's 15th Anniversary!

Join us for the 15 year birthday party of FSFE

When, what and where? Map from summit to c-base On September 3, beginning from 18:00 hours, bring your party mood to the C-base spacestation in the centre of Berlin to celebrate 15 years of FSFE together. The location is just a 10 minute walk away from the BCC where the FSFE summit is being held. Participants of the summit are invited to directly walk from the BCC to the c-base, get together and get food in the surrounding or order Pizza via us. Drinks are offered at the C-base bar.

There will an organised walk you can easily join, directly after closing of the BCC in front of the entrance.

This is your opportunity to continue the spark of conversation after the talks and sessions from the FSFE summit and to celebrate with us our 15th anniversary! Around 20:00 there will be like one hour of official program to award and honour some of FSFE's local heroes. Afterwards there will be music and a good time to revel in the past and look forward to the future.

Let us use our blog or social media, mailing lists, chats and all forms of digital and anolog communication to let people know about our work and about what we achieved in the last 15 years. Or let people know about your personal stories and shifts in the last 15 years regarding Free Software and why you decided to join and support the FSFE.

I Love Free Software Day 2016

As every year we invite you to celebrate Free Software and its creators and contributors on Valentine's Day (14th February).

    • In the Free Software community, we exchange a lot of criticism. We write bug reports, tell others how they can improve the software, ask them for new features, and generally are not shy about criticising others. There is nothing wrong about that. It helps us to constantly improve. But sometimes we forget to show the hardworking people behind the software our appreciation. We should not underestimate the power of a simple "thank you" to motivate Free Software contributors in their important work for society. So say thank you on 14th February!

#ilovefs is a campaign which lives through YOU! We invite you to be part of it to thank the many people behind Free Software, and to show the world that our movement and ideals are unique and amazing.

Please have a look at the things we've planned so far. Give us feedback, or be an active part of one of these actions. And if you have an own idea which you want to be realised, feel free to just it! Be creative, be free. Just contact our organising team.

Free Software developers, organisations, and companies: Please see how you can participate in ILoveFS with your project. We tailored some actions to you!

    Planned actions

In the past people did this on #ilovefs:

    • thank contributors in microblogs, social networks, on mailing lists, and blogs
    • post pictures expressing their love for Free Software
    • send postcards to developers they adore
    • write poems and create comics for #ilovefs
    • bake muffins for their Free Software colleagues
    • donate to developers and organisations dedicated to Free Software

This year we'd like to have a lot of pictures

    • pictures of you or you group thanking FS contributors creatively
    • meme pictures, for example with R. Stallman, L. Torvalds, Chuck Norris, Terminator or other superheroes ;)

    • ...or something completely different?

    Advertising ILoveFS

To make ILoveFS popular, we'd like to spread the word for it. And with your help, we can reach many more people than we ever did! So please ask some companies and projects (small or large, doesn't matter!) to include the ILoveFS graphic material on their websites. Please just tell us which people you contacted so we don't do any double work.

    Promotion material

For ILoveFS we already have some nice materials to order in our shop and on the promo material page:

    • postcards
    • small leaflets
    • balloons
    • poster
    • tshirts
    • a new exclusive sticker!

With our budget (~1000 EUR), we are able to create some other cool stuff. If you have a nice idea and want to see it realised, contact us so we can talk about it! For example we thought of

    • small chocolate bars which we can use as giveaways or presents for supporters
    • new stickers/posters/leaflets

You have a nice idea? Go on, make it real!

    Contact

For all ILoveFS related enquiries, please contact Max. He is looking forward to your ideas, feedback and anyone who wants to support this campaign.

    Category/Events

Participation of Free Software creators in ILoveFS

Dear Free Software developers, projects, organisations, and companies,

On 14th of February the "I Love Free Software" day will be celebrated again! It's a day for Free Software users to thank the contributors of their favourite software applications, projects and organisations. For the most part it's an online event with huge online activities in social networks and blogs (see 2015 report). Like in the last years the Free Software Foundation Europe will organise this event.

For this year we'd like to include you, the Free Software creators, more than ever. So there're three easy ways for you to easily participate in the campaign:

    1. Postcards: At the upcoming FOSDEM conference we will offer our visitors to fill out our #ilovefs postcards and send them to any address they want via snail mail. To make it easier for them we want to prepare some postal addresses – including yours. So if you're fine with receiving some love letters please tell us your postal address where we can send them to.

    2. Promotion: If you want to support this lovely campaign, we would like to ask you to promote it a little bit. For example by writing a blog post on the day itself or before (and tweet about it using #ilovefs), or by including some of our graphics on your website. This way we can reach more people and make them aware of the necessity to not only criticise but also to appreciate the work of Free Software creators.

    3. Material: And if you feel like spreading some love at events, in your offices, or pretty up some pictures, please feel free to order a package with the best of our #ilovefs material – posters, flyers, stickers, balloons, and more. You can also grab some of our stuff at FOSDEM if you're around.

    Interested?

We are looking forward to your message and our cooperation. Just write an email to Max Mehl who is organising this year's campaign. For any questions please don't hesitate to contact him.
