Donations for occasions

  • - The difficult part when asking for donations instead of gifts is to get the wording right on an invitation or in a face2face talk. You need to balance between being respectful and polite, without demanding anything of your friends, and at the same time be clear that you wouldn't prefer gifts. We have come up with few ideas for various occasion that you can either reuse or have them as an inspiration composing your own message.

  • Birthdays:

    • Having you at my party would be enough of a present, and I have so much already, so for my birthday this year, I'm asking for donations instead....

(a steady msg for after the multiplicity) I have chosen the non-profit Free Software Foundation Europe, because their mission means a lot to me, and I hope you'll consider contributing as a way to celebrate with me. Every little bit will help me reach my goal of freeing up software. FSFE is a charity promoting digital freedom and gives people literacy to control technology, rather than letting technology control them. They work towards a world where normal people are able to control and change technologies in a way that fits their individual needs.

  • Weddings: - We're getting married (late next year) and have been thinking about asking our guests to give a charitable donation, and a donation box will be at the reception....
