Radio Lockdown

Radio Lockdown is a term which describes the situation caused by the a new European directive (2014/53/EU) that includes new requiresments on software.

Situation in Germany

The Bundesnetzagentur is responsable for enforcing the new Funkanlagengesetz and did not publish any information about this law yet. Currently there seems no requirement to lock down WLAN, but other radio standards such as DECT and GSM are already locked down. With a recent firmware update AVM removed telnet root access to their Fritz!Box routers. A WLAN router model with the Respects Your Freedom certification is still avialable in Germany.
